The Kotilingeshwara temple has a story behind its construction. The belief is that one of lord shiva's scholar(bhakta) Manjunatha during his childhood and young age had insulted lord shiva. He is believed to have insulted Lord Shiva ten million times in his lifetime. Therefore, to acquit himself of his past sins, Bhakta Manjunatha, under the patronage of Maharaja Ambikeshwaravarma and the help of his family, created.

Crowdy during monday, full-moon(purnima),  no-moon(amvas), Mahashivratri and shravan maasa.

If you want to avoid the crowd then visit the Kotilingeshwara temple on Wednesday and Thursday.
